When did Palestinians come to be known as Palestinians

1940: Stating that the interest thus shown by America in regard to Iraqi affords them a fresh opportunity to serve the Arabian causes in a new field, he suggests the despatch to the United States of a deputation of Iraqis, Palestinians and Syrians to set out the problems arisen from the Syrian and Palestinian questions. He also recommended that this Government appoint a Minister Plenipotentiary to Washington instead of a ChargĂ© d’Affaire <a href=” Link 1939: The significance of the presence of these persons in Baghdad is not yet definitely apparent, nor is it known whether it is their intention to remain here indefinitely or until the settlement of the European conflict. In taking various factors into consideration one might reasonably believe it possible or even probable that these Palestinians intend to make Baghdad a base for the development of their future plans and projects. In any event they are in sympathetic surroundings and will no doubt receive sympathetic encouragement. I cannot believe that the British would view their presence with any degree of satisfaction, but whether they are willing or able to do anything about it remains to be seen. However, I will keep in touch with this important situation and keep the Department as fully informed as possible.  Respectfully yours, P. Knabenshue. (historicaldocuments/frus1939v04/d849) 1943: Ibn Saud emphasized that he had no personal territorial ambitions outside his own country but merely wished to see Syria and Palestine attain individual independence and take their place alongside Saudi Arabia and Iraq in a balanced comity of Arab states; in other words Syria for the Syrians, Palestine for the Palestinians, et cetera. <a href=” Link 1947:In the name of the Arab Higher Committee of Palestine, the Grand Mufti of Palestine, Amin al-Huseyni, sent a note to Egyptian Prime Minister Nahes Pasha and the Secretariat of the Arab League, asking that measures be taken to halt the emigration movement of Palestinians to South America. In this note, the Mufti of Palestine, says that this movement would harm the Arab cause because it would be a “de facto” recognition of Israel’s seizure of the Arab assets of Palestine. <a href=” Link 1950:Source states that a military organisation for the liberation of Palestine has been organised by subjict (Haj Amin al-Husseini). At the beginning of April, this organisation distributed tracts calling on Arab youth – particularly Palestinians — to unite and make another effort to liberate Palestine.<a href=” Link
